Essential Opera is TEN YEARS OLD. Yes, you read that correctly. Erin Bardua and I have been producing opera for a decade. To celebrate, this weekend we are putting the finishing touches on our latest production, a mini-opera by Anna Pidgorna based on the story of Snow White. And we’d love for you to be online with us.

Mirror, Mirror is a mini-opera based on the familiar tale of Snow White. In this version by composer-librettist Anna Pidgorna, we get to watch Snow White change into a lovely and confident young woman who inspires her own mother’s envy. We also get to witness the extreme and conflicting emotions that transform Snow White’s Mother into the Evil Queen. In this operatic interpretation, Snow White develops awareness of the power of her beauty just in time for the Queen to enact her revenge.
We are thrilled to present this amazing work as a short film. We used our mobile phones to capture all the footage, including of course the selfie videos both Snow White and the Queen take when they talk to the “mirror”. The excellent folks at Leaf Music recorded the audio, and filmmaker Tom Belding edited the piece together.
